Models

At the International Institute of Orthotics and Prosthetics (IIOP), our patient models are at the heart of the work we do. Their contributions are essential to both our educational programs and our ongoing research efforts.

If you're interested in becoming a patient model or participating in research at IIOP, we’d love to hear from you. To learn more or begin the evaluation process, please reach out to Olivia Martinez.

Research Participants

Research participants - both individuals with limb differences and able-bodied volunteers - play a critical role in helping us build a foundation of data that supports innovation in rehabilitation science. Their participation allows IIOP to explore important areas such as:

  • Walking patterns after transtibial or transfemoral amputation

  • Effectiveness of Reciprocating Gait Orthoses (RGO)

  • Energy expenditure and oxygen consumption during ambulation

  • Spinal orthotic studies and other biomechanical investigations

Through their involvement, we are able to push the boundaries of knowledge and contribute meaningful advances to patient care.

Patient Models

Patient models help bring classroom instruction to life. By working directly with students, they provide a deeper understanding of the clinical and human aspects of prosthetic and orthotic care. These interactions not only enhance hands-on learning, but also foster empathy, communication skills, and problem-solving among future practitioners.

Whether participating in clinical simulations, fitting labs, or case discussions, our educational models help ensure that IIOP graduates are well-prepared to deliver compassionate, informed care in the real world.
