Over the past couple of months, the VIP 33 have been hard at work expanding our clinical skill set with upper limb prosthetics, lower limb orthotics, and transfemoral prosthetics. We began our upper limb journey by covering trans radial and trans humeral prostheses in a single class. There, we learned to properly fit harnesses and assemble body-powered mock prostheses. This was an incredible opportunity to experience activities of daily living using devices we built ourselves.

Next, in our second lower limb orthotics course, we took on the challenge of KAFOs. Before diving into the notoriously difficult metal bending segment, we received some wise words of encouragement from Mr. Petersen that helped motivate us for the challenge ahead. We learned that walking with a locked leg is extremely physically demanding. This made us thankful for technology like the Ottobock C-Brace we were able to demo in class.

Currently, we’re immersed in our transfemoral prosthetics course. We're thrilled to be working with patient models once again and exploring advanced componentry, including exciting technologies like microprocessor knees.
