The International Institute of Orthotics and Prosthetics (IIOP) is an organization that seeks to improve the lives of people living with amputation, veterans, and their families by enhancing the capacity and effectiveness of the practitioners who serve them. It does this primarily through its work with accredited O&P programs in the areas of research, innovation, education, and collaboration.
The Institute was established in 2015 and was designed to serve as a resource center for educators, researchers, practitioners, and patients.
The Institute offers a variety of O&P and allied health program support services, grant writing, or assistance with developing consortium partnerships to leverage funding. It also provides a venue for practitioners to have greater access to the industry’s knowledge by hosting workshops and symposiums. The Institute’s facility enables researchers and professional partners to collaborate with us on innovative projects. And because the Institute is located just minutes from MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, people living with amputation, veterans, first responders and their families can also receive wrap-around services such as wellness programs, and other rehabilitative services offered by either the government or private sector.

The International Institute of Orthotics and Prosthetics is the profession’s only independent O&P educational facility dedicated only to Orthotics and Prosthetics training. The Institute is committed to the elevation of the Orthotics and Prosthetics Profession through quality education. IIOP hosts the American Board of Certification for Orthotics, Prosthetics and Pedorthics Testing Center. This gives IIOP’s students access to a multitude of educational opportunities as well as exposure to the seasoned clinicians in the profession. We host job fairs so that students can have the opportunity to meet potential residency directors and provides a forum for students at the Institute to present their research papers and case studies to an audience of their peers and mentors. The campus is also home to a private O&P practice which allows our students to complete clinical rotations on-site and gain valuable patient interactions. The IIOP curriculum’s foundational courses are focused on the interdisciplinary approach to problem-based learning. The curriculum encourages students to become lifelong learners with an emphasis on improving orthotic and prosthetic outcomes. A great deal of time is spent ensuring that students develop appropriate manual skills together with the understanding of the importance of lab skills in the workforce.
