This week was a big one for us in Prosthetic Management of the Lower Limb!
After spending the last week evaluating patients, taking casts, modifying plaster models, and fabricating test sockets, we finally got to see it all come together during patient fitting day. Watching our patients walk in the sockets we built was definitely the highlight of the project. Throughout the day, we made adjustments to socket fit, trimlines, prosthetic height, and alignment while observing each patient's gait and making changes as needed. It was exciting to see how all of the work we had been doing in the lab translated into the clinic. Seeing even the smallest adjustments improve comfort and gait mechanics really shows how much precision goes into prosthetic fitting.
It's a little bittersweet realizing how quickly our second semester is flying by, but going through this program with our class has made every milestone even more memorable. It’s exciting to see how each of us has grown in this field since our first semester. We are ready for the rest of the semester and what it has in store as we continue working with our patients and learning new skills!
