This semester has been full of new experiences for the Bakers Dozen. We’ve continued building on our skills through new classes, labs, guest presentations, and professional opportunities. In our upper and lower limb courses, we had visits earlier this semester from Össur and Ottobock. Össur gave us a lab on Myoelectric prosthetics, where we learned how muscle signals can control prosthetic devices. Ottobock presented the C-Brace, showing how microprocessor-controlled orthoses can improve walking and stability.

We also began Lower Limb Prosthetics, working with transfemoral patient models. It has been a valuable opportunity to apply classroom concepts to clinical situations and understand the importance of proper alignment and socket fit. This semester, several members of our cohort had the chance to attend the AOPA National Assembly, where many presented poster presentations. It was a great experience to connect with professionals in the field, learn from others, and represent IIOP on a national level. We also had a visit from Jim Lawson from ABC, who spoke with us about residency preparation and gave helpful advice on interviews, applications, and certification. Many of us have started the process of applying and interviewing for residency positions.

To wrap up a busy semester, we attended a Tampa Bay Lightning game with other students and faculty. It was a fun way to take a break, enjoy some time together, and celebrate everything we’ve accomplished so far. Overall, this semester has been a strong mix of learning, growth, and new opportunities as we move closer to beginning our professional careers.
